Ongoing work to assist with the creative re-use and refurbishment of a multi-use building, occupied by organisations specialising in working with people with special needs.

An old WW2 American military site, the building in the heart of residential Fishponds has seen many uses over the years – as government offices, a hospital and most recently as a conference centre and hub for disabled and community services.

Fit Architects have worked with the Vassall Centre, the building’s owners, over recent years to help find the best use of the building and shape it for a sustainable future. Work has varied, from minor alterations to services and facilities, through reorganisation of the interior to form a variety of flexible spaces, to feasibility studies looking at extending the structure and adding new accommodation.

The Vassall Centre is well known within the community for providing ‘barrier free’ accessible workspace and conference facilities, in line with its main purpose. All new work is considered with accessibility at its heart.
