Existing building, budget

A two story side extension to an existing 50's semi-detached house in Westbury-on-Trym.

Doubling the amount of kitchen space and providing a new utility room and study on the ground floor with an additional bedroom, en-suite and dressing room above.

The extension sits within a generous plot with views out on all sides, so doors and windows have been carefully sized and positioned to provide a constant connection with the garden from within.

The property is in a particularly prominent position at the end of the street, and careful negotiation with the planners was necessary to obtain permission, with the roof and materials designed to match the existing house externally. Internally more playful use of the volumes creates a master-bedroom suite with a dramatic ceiling rising into the sloping roof.

Carried out in association with LSA in London.
